Chai Tow Kway or Fried Carrot Cake is made of radish and egg, fried over a hot flat iron pan.
It is normally eaten for breakfast though some have it for lunch and even dinner too.
A simple dish of fried radish that is top up with black sweet sauce or chilli & sometimes finished with fresh prawns.
This are my fave 3 since my youth and glad that the stall owners have kept up their high standards all these years and even coached the next generation to carry on the trade.
1. Chey Sua Carrot Cake
Chey Sua is located on Level 2 of the Toa Payoh West Food Center at #02-230 Blk 127 Lorong 1 Toa Payoh which is appx 500m south of the Braddell MRT Station.

Crispy, sweet and so very flavourful, the radish are home made by the owners, then pan-fried to a nice golden colour before being served.
They have their faithful followers from all over the island and they issue a queue number to their customers.
Be prepared to wait at least 30 to 60 minutes if you fail to call and pre-order.
2. Fried Carrot Cake @ Clementi 448 Food Center
This stall is located within the Clementi 448 Food Center at 01-45 Blk 448 Clementi Ave 3 and located 300m south of the Clementi MRT Station.

Theirs is the slightly wet version of Chai Tow Kueh as most places serve theirs dry.
The wok-hei is outstanding as the owner fries it so very well. They are easy to find as they have the longest queues in the market.
3. Lau Goh Teochew Chye Thow Kway
This stall is located within the Zion Riverside Food Center at #01-26 Blk 70 Zion Road which is appx 300m west of the Great World MRT Station which is scheduled to commence operations from 2nd half of 2021.

12pm-11pm with rest breaks from 3pm-6pm
When at Lau Goh, do order their dual version of black and white fried carrot cake as they are very good and allows one to taste the different flavours.
The stall owners are deaf mute and have an effective ordering system as they will guide you to point what you want to order.
